Hi my name is Naomi also known as squish which is one of my many nicknames. I’m 14 and going into 9th grade but I’m not your run of the mill teen. I live at an Inn named after me: Naomi’s Inn in Springfield, Massachusetts. But It’s not just a place to stay, it has a background story which I’m going to tell you.
It starts in a hospital in Sacramento, California with me and my mom. When I was born I had a serious condition. Now usually babies don’t stay in the hospital for all that long, but I on the other hand stayed for quite some time… for at least few months.
I stayed in the Neo-Natal unit under observation. My mom didn’t want to leave me but the closest hotel room was several miles away. After I was finally released, my mom had a brilliant idea.
When I was three we moved to Massachusetts and she started her grand scheme. She purchased an old Victorian across the street from Bay State hospital and the renovations began. Three and a half years after that Naomi’s Inn was born (pun totally intended). The idea was that people who, like my mom, had loved ones staying for a night or more at the hospital would have someplace close by to stay with all the comforts of home.
This is how I get to meet the people I meet. Some of them are even from far off destinations like India, Hawaii, Ireland and many others. Some stay for hospital related reasons and still others for business or pleasure.
There are also other experiences I get to encounter. My mom’s friend Jacki Jacobs runs a photography studio. I met Jacki at the Inn and after my mom asked Jacki to open a studio here I’ve gotten to help out on some photo shoots. Since I hang around there so much I now have an apprenticeship with her.
These are the files of the adventures….and misadventures… of a innkeeper’s daughter and a photographer’s apprentice.
